Seastrand

Seastrand is an upscale condo sitting on the shores of English Bay in West Vancouver. The Architek team worked with the strata council and local engineers to update tenant-occupied balconies across all units to comply with code requirements.

Upgrades include 3,750 linear feet of marine-grade AISI 316 stainless steel vertical cable frame and post guardrails that meet local safety regulations while enhancing the visual appeal for residents.

Design

The project, led by Latera Engineering with design by ATA Architecture, replaces outdated railings to improve safety and aesthetics. Using Jakob Rope Systems, a custom-framed balcony guardrail was created with premium AISI 316 stainless steel cable and hardware.

Installation

The vertical cable frame solution replaced balcony guardrails in over 100 units for owners and tenants. Rigorous testing used digital load cells to ensure cable tension met all code requirements during deflection.

Maintenance

The marine-grade AISI 316 stainless steel is well-suited for long-term use near saltwater environments, making it durable enough to endure the demands of this oceanside location.
