British Columbia's newest eco-tourism attraction features 1,600 linear feet of Webnet
Squamish Canyon is a remarkable and truly special destination. The newly opened tourist attraction in British Columbia feels both magical and surreal, with boardwalks meandering through the West Coast rainforest. These walkways lead to the river’s edge, where visitors can enjoy breathtaking views of glacial waterfalls. It’s landscapes like these that connect Canadians from coast to coast, and proudly, it is home to our latest Rope + Cable installation.
The project features over 1,600 linear feet of Webnet infill safety railing, incorporating advanced materials and innovative engineering. Central to the design is a code-compliant 40mm diameter cable Webnet made from 1.5mm diameter strands, complemented by an 8mm tension cable perimeter. This combination meets local safety regulations while enhancing the visual appeal of the boardwalk and viewing platforms, where spectacular views of nature are the main attraction.
Custom-designed components were essential to this site and installation. Our team introduced both fixed and adjustable spreader bars to alleviate tension from the cable perimeter system. These spreader bars help maintain the required guardrail height, preserve the shape of the Webnet, and provide vertical support at transition points. Additionally, cable tie-down loops are strategically placed to minimize netting deflection, ensuring compliance with safety codes and adding an extra layer of protection for visitors.
The Webnet product was specifically selected by the owner and engineers for its ability to enhance the visitor experience while ensuring long-term durability. Made from polyvalent wire that requires virtually no maintenance, the netting can withstand challenging weather conditions, ranging from rain and snow to sun and ice, making it durable enough to endure the seasonal demands this challenging location. These advantages, along with its aesthetic appeal, made Webnet the preferred choice for the Squamish Canyon design team, reflecting a wider trend across the country.
From Peggy’s Cove to Tofino, and many locations in between, Architek’s Rope + Cable division is building a strong track record of successful projects in environmentally sensitive areas across the nation. These cherished, often nationally protected, spaces require low-impact infrastructure solutions and products, making Webnet a leading choice for safety barriers in busy tourist destinations.
