Douglas College

The Douglas College Campus project in New Westminster underwent a major remediation and redesign in 2008. The design included sustainable green roof systems on multiple levels and the interior courtyard.
Architek was challenged on multiple fronts on this project as the design called for no irrigation system on the green roofs and the building being located on a sloped property required some elaborate crane work.

Design

Architek was challenged by the architect on this multiple level, multiple green roof project to install a water retaining green roof system that did not require irrigation. We used a Zinco FD 25 water retention build-up for these green roofs.

Installation

Architek installed the a number of green roofs on multiple levels and also managed the paver hard-scaping scope directly with general contractor, Stuart Olson. Due to the steep sloped location of the college campus and hidden courtyard, a 200-ton crane was used to hoist materials needed.

Maintenance

Architek has had a maintenance contract at Douglas College for 12 years and the green roofs are thriving.
